Alfa Acciai Mobility Management: a further step to cut the impact
The Home-Work Travel Plan for the plant in San Polo, Brescia
The Home-Work Travel Plan is a company programme that aims at optimising employees' home-work journeys including alternative forms of sustainable mobility, limiting the use of private vehicles and reducing vehicle traffic, while encouraging the use of public transport, public bike-sharing services, and car sharing among employees.
Alfa Acciai has introduced the position of the Mobility Manager, whose explicit task consists of 'managing the demand for mobility and promoting the sustainable mobility of the home-work journeys of employees'. Moreover, a tool for planning the regular home-work journeys of employees, the PSCL, has been recently adopted in the San Polo factory.
After an in-depth assessment of the current habits of employees, several measures were identified and grouped along five directives of action and strategies of interest: discouraging the individual use of private cars; encouraging the use of public transport; favouring cycling and/or micro-mobility; reducing the demand for mobility; promoting employees’ awareness of sustainable mobility issues.
Among the most relevant actions are the arrangement of car and bicycles parking, promotion of alternatives to private cars, participation in the European Mobility Week to be held in September, the agreement with Brescia Mobilità for Local Public Transport, and the downsizing and gradual electrification of the company fleet.
Stefano Bresciani, Alfa Acciai Mobility Manager, describes the project with these words:
I am thrilled to be the company's spokesperson on the progressive achievement of objectives that will contribute to a cultural transformation of employees regarding mobility. First and foremost, I believe it is essential to raise awareness among as many people as possible, participating in the change, supporting the improvement of the local community and safeguarding the environment.
